Description

The emerald green discus is a truly stunning fish, and it looks beautiful in any aquarium. This beautiful fish is the result of cross breeding several varieties of natural discus, such as the blue and green discus, and cultivated discus. The resulting fish is a magnificent deep green shade with variations of blue and green throughout. Although the vertical stress bars are lighter than they appear in naturally occurring discus, they have five distinctive bars. The center of the emerald green discus often shows a darker green color than the overall coloring of the fish, and the color often deepens the closer it gets to the tail fin.

The body of the emerald green discus has striations on it that are varying shades of green to a dark blue color. The pectoral and dorsal fins also have striations on them, but the pattern is reversed among the two. The dorsal fin has darker colors at the bottom and a lighter color on the tips, but the pectoral fin is often lighter at the bottom and darker at the tips. These colors vary, and not every emerald green discus displays the pattern in exactly the same way.

The juvenile emerald green discus is a pale green with noticeable vertical bars. As the discus matures, the patterns of striation become more visible, and its color deepens to a beautiful shade of green. Full grown, the emerald green discus will be approximately 8” long. It is almost as tall as it is wide, which accounts for its round body shape. The emerald green discus is a beautiful addition to any tropical aquarium.

    2 Emeralds

Hard to review the Emerald Greens without mentioning Steves overall outstanding communication and service PLUS some other beautiful discus from him. The 2 inch Quarter sized discus were actually THICK and the bodies excluding fins were quarter if not larger. I have had them for a few weeks now AND I had 6 quarter sized fish come in from another hobbyist. In comparison, while both groups are healthy, Steves are much thicker. At this time it is of course too early to describe the color but any experienced discus keeper could tell they will have a green bluish sheam sp? as their color develops. I have LOVED the image of his Emerald Green that has been advertised for decades now and I am eager too see the color transformation. It is on me now to keep up a good WC routine and feeding regime in order to grow them out and not to scare anyone but to get them at least 6 inch then multiple, large WCs a week is key. Steve, if I can post current pics and later on progression pics then let me know!

Healthy Discus, Fast Response & Constant Updates

Posted by Jackson Cheenath on 10th Sep 2019

I got one of this fish and its pectoral fin was split when I got it. I emailed Steve and he suggested that it will heal on its own by the coming week. And like he said it healed. Even though the fins were split the discus was really healthy and the most eating and enjoyable to watch. They are very active as well. Now this one is the biggest in my school of discus. Will definitely buy next time.
